Life With UIT

Living in Sydney

UIT is located at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation, at 37 Nepean St in Sydney's historic Northend, where you'll find affordable housing amongst students, artists, and startup founders. UIT students have full access to the classroom 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so we recommend living closeby. Need help finding a place? Our team can help! Get in touch!

General Questions

Time Commitment

What we expect...

UIT is two university semesters of intensive experiential learning. While it is preferred that you commit to UIT full-time for the duration of the immersion, we deliberately made the format flexible to allow for family and work commitments. If you have concerns, talk to us!

  • Semester 1: September-December
  • Semester 2: January-April

During the winter and summer 'holidays' you are free to use the UIT facility to incubate your startup.

What is UIT?

It is a unique combination of technology & entrepreneurship training that prepares students for a career in the tech sector – either by joining a company or launching one of their own!

Am I right for UIT?

Land a job or launch a startup — no coding experience necessary

We don't necessarily look for previous education or coding experience. We look for:

  • An aptitude for self-directed learning
  • A desire for a career in the technology industry

In other words, we look for ambition and potential.

The 2014/15 and 2015/16 cohorts were each composed of 12 students – 6 women and 6 men – who ranged from recent high school graduates to Master's students. Some had coding experience or business degrees, while others had little to no coding experience or experience turning an idea into a product. Some entered the program with an idea already fully formed, while others were looking to gain the skills to get a job in the tech sector or launch their own startup.
